These keys can be programmed to perform different functions. For example you could re-program the call key to toggle monitor mode. These keys are active whether the mic is on or off. Lock switch is on the back, right is lock. Reset Partial - resets all rig functions but leaves Memories intact. Turn rig off Hold VFO and turn rig on There is a visual message asking yes or no, press VFO to reset, any other key to exit. Reset Full - resets rig and resets Memories Same as above but use MR instead of VFO Microphone Control The rig can be set to enable many control functions from the microphone. Method to set is outlined below and involves changing a Menu setting. It is possible to set even if you cannot see the display, however some may need sighted assistance. The manual states that nearby touch tones may interfere with rig performance. Newer versions of the TMP7 don't have this problem. Functions that can be controlled are: Keypad 1 Visual scan Keypad 2 Tone/CTCss 3 Reverse 4 1 Mhz step 5 Monitor 6 Frequency readout memory channel or vfo. 7 Volume change press and if high beep * down # up, moving actual volume restores original setting. 8 Dual band receive, toggles between vhf/uhv and vhf/vhf or vhf/uhf and uhf/uhf no change to beep pitch. 9 Squelch * down # up see volume key 7. 0 Transmit power change A Enter B control set, same as button between volume controls. C crossband shortcut, press D then C to toggle on and off. D function key, but holding for one second does not give second beep. D2 Tone select. To change to 67HZ for example press D2A01 D5 Mic lock. Mic is still on but only the top row keys work. D6 Mic unlock. * Star - Frequency down # Pound - Frequency up To Activate Microphone Control Press MNU second button on right under the On/Off switch to enter the Menus Use tuning knob to go to Menu 16, Microphone is on the display. On the display there is a right facing arrow above the third of the four buttons under the display. Press and rotate tuning knob until display says Mic Control. Press Set, the right of the four buttons to toggle the function On. Display says On Press MNU to exit the Menu mode. Frequency Entry - Direct Ensure Microphone Control is enabled, see above Select band and VFO Press A on the microphone, voice says enter. The initial 1 for VHF or 4 for UHF is already entered. Enter the remaining 5 digits. Last digits must be 0 ot 5 for VHF or 00, 25, 50 or 75 for UHF. If you leave more than 10 seconds between any actions you get to start over. Memory Storing Enter desired frequency and settings in the desired band in VFO mode. Press F the left button of the four under the display Use Tuning to select the desired Memory Channel. Press MR. The VFO frequency and settings are entered in the selected Memory and any previous data in that Memory is overwritten. Call Channel Loading Load frequency and settings in the VFO mode. Press F the left button of the four under the display. Press Call, any previous data is overwritten. Menu Defaults The following lists the defaults available under the Menu System. These features can be changed but sighted help may be required. The speech synthesizer does not speak in menu mode. It is possible to reliably change most menu items if you are careful. First, note that if the radio is reset, pressing menu starts at menu 1. Notice that if you press right arrow i.e. reverse, you get a high error beep. Since the radio is still in menu selection mode, simply rotate tuning control one position to the right for menu two. Pressing reverse when menu two is selected gives a lower beep which means it has more than one item. To test the next menu press f to go back to menu selection mode. Rotate the tuning knob and press reverse. It turns out that every menu with more than one item gives a low beep when reverse is pressed. The high beep menus are 1, 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 17. This means you can always orient yourself to a given menu by looking for groups of high beeps. For example, if you find four high beeps, you know they were 8, 9, 10, and 11 and the next menu is 12. Turn tuning control to the item you want and then press set i.e.low until item is what you want.
