Handiham World Update for September 19, 2022

We had a great Handiham Program 55th Anniversary Celebration last month with many first time attendees. We held our celebration virtually using the Zoom platform, a format that is quite accessible to screen reader users. The week included classes on practical antenna construction, getting started as a ham radio operator, setting up your first ham station, using the VNA antenna analyzer, contesting, accessible equipment, and a final session where we shared what’s coming as the Handiham Program brings back in-person events next year. Many thanks to all our instructors for all their help in during this special celebration!

We have a new AllStar node number. Please use node 473670 to connect to the Handiham nets. The Handiham Radio Club sponsors nets at 11:00 am Central time and on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm Central time. We are so thankful to Barry, K9AMO, our net manager, and look forward to talking to everyone on the nets.

If you want to join the basic Morse code class this fall, you need to contact Pemdy immediately to complete your application. Class starts next Monday, September 26th. This class starts at the very beginning, teaching letters, numbers, and prosigns. You do not need to have any prior Morse code training to join the class. We hold weekly Zoom classes and also provide practice recordings to supplement each class.

If you want to join the next Technician Class license class, you can reach out to Pemdy to complete your application. This class starts in October and will run for 24 weeks with breaks for the holidays, of course. Classes are held using the Zoom platform, and handouts will be provided each week to help students with their studies.

We are getting the final details in place for a week-long in-person event next September. Look for an announcement to come soon with additional details for those who plan to join us.

Thank you,

Lucinda and Pemdy
