Handiham World Update for November 22, 2021

This Saturday, November 27th, will be the next Zoom Gathering. We will focus on gratitude for this event in honor of the Thanksgiving holiday in the US. Be sure to hang onto the invitation email from Pemdy so you can join in the fun and fellowship.

The Handiham Program office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday break from Wednesday November 24th through Friday the 26th. We expect to be back to our usual schedule next week. Please note that due to a family medical emergency, Lucinda’s schedule could change at any moment. We thank you for your patience during this difficult time.

Due to ongoing problems with the Handiham AllStar setup, please use alternate ways to connect to the Handiham Radio Club nets. The best way is via Echolink with DMR as an alternative. We are thankful for some very helpful volunteers who are working on finding a solution to the AllStar issue and hope to have it up and running soon.

If you are interested in taking the Intermediate Morse Code class or the Extra Class license course, we are planning to run both next year. The Extra Class course will start the end of January, and the Intermediate Morse Code course begins in late February. You can reach out to Pemdy to get your name on the lists for an application when they are ready. Because of everything we have to cover for the Extra Class, that course will run a full 16 weeks, so keep that time commitment in mind. The Intermediate Morse Code course will be 13 weeks in length.

We held our 9th Basic Morse Code class tonight. After learning all the characters during the first 8 weeks of class, students are now working on increasing their ability to copy and send Morse code. There is no General Class this week due to the holiday in the US. Next week, the General Class will cover propagation. It’s hard to believe that we are nearly done with both classes already!

We hope you have a great week,

Lucinda and Pemdy

Handiham World Update for November 8, 2021

Saturday, November 27th, will be the next Zoom Gathering. We will focus on gratitude for this event. Pemdy will send out the invitation several days ahead of time, so be sure to hang onto that email to join in the fun and fellowship.

Thanks to the help of several dedicated volunteers, work is being done on the Handiham AllStar node. Stay tuned for updates.

The Handiham Program office will be closed for the Thanksgiving holiday break from November 24th through the 26th.

We held our seventh class in the 2021 Basic Morse Code course tonight. The students are studying hard, making good use of the practice recordings they receive each week. We only have a couple more numbers to add, and the class will know all the characters. Next, students will focus on improving copy using QSOs. They will also start practicing sending Morse code.

Wednesday will be the eighth class in the General Class course. This week is the first of two classes covering antennas. With cramming all the material into a 12 week course, our students have a lot of information to cover for each class!
