Here we are in 2023! This year, we get a new General Class question pool effective July 1st, and Jim Perry, KJ3P is already hard at work recording the new pool for us. If you are currently studying for your General Class exam, you have until June 30th to pass your test under the current question pool.
This year, we will also be returning to in-person Radio Camp, although it will look a little different from past Radio Camps. We will be in a hotel, the same one we used for the 2018 Amateur Radio and Assistive Technology Conference. Of course, we won’t be staying in the hotel all the time. We will be making several field trips during the week to operate radios and visit local attractions. Mark your calendars for September 6th through 13th, and make plans to join us for a very special week filled with hands-on ham radio activities and fun fellowship with other hams. More information, including financial details and the daily schedule will be available soon. You can reach out to Pemdy to be put on the list for an application.
We are so grateful for Barry, K9AMO, our Handiham Radio Club net manager, and his incredible team of net control stations. All of you provide an invaluable service to our Handiham community. The Handiham Radio Club sponsors nets at 11:00 am Central time and on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm Central time on the Handiham Conference Server. Please join us as often as you can!
The intermediate level Morse code class starts in just a few short weeks on February 20th. If you want to join us for this class, please contact Pemdy right away for an application. Classes include weekly interactive sessions over Zoom along with practice recordings to help students increase their speed from around five words per minute to around 13 words per minute. For this class, you should already know all the letters, numbers, and prosigns and be able to copy code at 5 words per minute.
If you have already completed the intermediate level Morse code class or if you can copy around 13 words per minute, you can join us in September of 2023 for a two semester advanced Morse code class. We will be taking students from 13 to around 20 words per minute. The class will run two semesters with a long break between semesters. If you are interested in this class, please contact Pemdy to be placed on the list for an application.
The 24 week Technician Class finished week 11 last night. Classes are held using the Zoom platform, and handouts and class recordings are provided each week to assist students with their studies.
In the fall of 2023, we will also be starting a two-semester General Class license class. If you are interested in joining us for that class, please ask Pemdy to put you on the list for an application. This class will be in the same format as the current two-semester Technician Class with interactive Zoom classes along with class recordings and handouts sent via email to students.
The Handiham Radio Club is getting radio active! We will hold our first monthly meeting on March 5th at 3:00pm Central Time. Meetings will take place on the first Sunday of each month at that time, so you can mark your calendars and plan to attend. Watch for a Zoom link that will go out to the club Groups.io list. If you have not yet joined the Handiham Radio Club, all current members of the Handiham Program are eligible to join. Just let Pemdy know you want to be put on the email list for the club so you can keep up with everything that is happening.
From all of us at the Handiham Program, welcome to 2023!
Lucinda and Pemdy
