Are you planning to attend Dayton Hamvention this year? It’s been a long time since the last one in 2019! The Handiham Program will have a booth again, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there from May 20 – 22. We will have several volunteers helping out, and attendees will have the opportunity to see demonstrations of accessible radio equipment in addition to all the conversations that regularly take place at our booth.
Due to some unexpected technical issues, the only reliable way to reach the Handiham Conference right now is via Echolink or over the air on an Echolink connected repeater. Both DMR and AllStar are not working at this time. We are grateful to the volunteers who are working to get everything up and running again. Stay tuned for updates!
In just a couple months, on April 30th, the Handiham Program will be 55 years old. It’s an exciting milestone, and Pemdy and I are busy planning a lot of fun activities for members to participate in throughout the year including a couple of special event station activities. You can find more information on the first special event station, running April 29 through May 1, by going to the Handiham Radio Club site at handiham.net.
We are five weeks into the virtual Extra Class, and the students appreciated having less math this week. Even with a 16 week class, there is a lot of material to cover in every class. We meet for the live virtual classes on Wednesday evenings and will cover all the material for the Extra Class license. Students get weekly handouts along with the questions covered in that week’s class to aid them in their studies.
The Intermediate Morse Code course started on Monday. We have another great group of students, and we are looking forward to a challenging and fun semester. This course runs for 13 weeks with Tom, KB8TYJ, Jim, KE5AL, and John, W2QCY, as the instructors. To be successful, students participate in the live virtual classes in addition to homework and one-on-one code sessions with instructors outside of class.
We hope you have a great week,
Lucinda and Pemdy
