The Handiham Program is officially 55 years old now! We are so proud of that milestone and are grateful to all those involved with the Program over the years who helped us reach this momentous occasion. We had a lot of fun with our special event QSO party the final weekend of April. Between Tom, KB8TYJ, and Ron, K8HSY, hundreds of contacts were made!
We are also looking forward to our virtual event in August. From the 8th through the 14th, we will be taking time to celebrate the 55th Anniversary of the Handiham Program during a week long event. We will get to hear from numerous people who have participated in the Handiham Program over the years, attend classes in amateur radio operating skills, and get on the air for a special Handiham 55th Anniversary QSO Party.
Are you planning to attend Dayton Hamvention this year? It’s been a long time since the last one in 2019! The Handiham Program will have a booth again, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone there from May 20 – 22 at booth 5001. We will have several volunteers chatting with visitors at the booth and demonstrating accessible radio equipment, so be sure to stop by and update us on all your ham radio activities.
The Handiham AllStar and DMR links are up and running! Feel free to use these to connect to the Handiham Conference and join in the daily Handiham Radio Club nets. We are so grateful to everyone involved in this project!
As of last night, we are done with the virtual Extra Class. It’s hard to believe how fast sixteen weeks went by! We had a great group of students, and class discussions were always interesting in this class. We met for the live virtual classes on Wednesday evenings and covered all the material for the Extra Class license during the course. Students received weekly handouts along with the questions covered in that week’s class to aid them in their studies.
The Intermediate Morse Code course is on week 12, copying at 13 words per minute. Sadly, next week is our final week for this class. We have lots of fun in this class while practicing the art of Morse code. This course runs for 13 weeks and keeps students busy with homework and one-on-one sessions with instructors in addition to the weekly interactive live session. If you always wanted to learn Morse code, we have a basic class in the fall that starts from the very beginning–no prior knowledge required.
We hope you have a great week,
Lucinda and Pemdy
