Handiham World Update for October 11, 2021

If you live in the northern latitudes, watch for aurora tonight. Because of a coronal mass ejection on Saturday, a geomagnetic storm watch has been issued for tonight. Aurora contacts are a lot of fun and yet another good reason to learn Morse code!

This Saturday, October 16th, will be the Fall Zoom Gathering. Pemdy sent out the Zoom invitation to all current Handiham Program members today. Be sure to hang onto that email so you can join us for the fun on Saturday!

We held our third class in the 2021 Basic Morse Code course tonight. The students are studying hard, making good use of the practice recordings they receive each week. In every class, they add more letters, numbers, punctuation, and prosigns to their repertoire.

Wednesday will be the fourth class in the General Class course. The students are taking a deep dive into components and circuits right now. With cramming all the material into a 12 week course, our students have a lot of information to cover each week!

If you are interested in the Intermediate Morse Code class or the Extra Class license course, we are planning to run both next year. You can reach out to Pemdy to get your name on the lists for an application when they are ready. Because of everything we have to cover for the Extra Class, that course will run a full 16 weeks, so keep that time commitment in mind.

We hope you have a great week,

Lucinda and Pemdy

Handiham World Update for September 27, 2021

Things are so busy in the Handiham Program right now with two classes running this fall. To get everything done, we are having to make changes for the remainder of the year. Starting this week, we will have a short print update one week and a regular E-Letter the next week. That way we can better keep up with all the classes that are running on top of everything else going on behind the scenes in the Handiham Program.

We had a great time in our first General Class session last week. This week we will be covering emergency communications along with rules and regulations. Next week, we start on components and circuits.

We also had a great group of students for our first Basic Morse Code class on Monday. Learning Morse code is like learning a new language, and we have a dedicated group who are prepared for the work involved to accomplish their goal. We introduced our first four letters plus punctuation and the first prosign this week.

We will be holding our next Zoom gathering on October 16th. Watch for the invitation and Zoom link coming later next week.

We hope you have a great week,

Lucinda and Pemdy
