A perennial problem with the Web Transceiver software is that the initial setup is difficult for our blind users who depend on screenreading software to operate their computers. The first screenshot shows the current web transceiver enter logon information screen. It is not all that easy to grasp, even if you can see it, and if you use a screenreader you may find that it is very confusing and you may need to call a sighted person to the computer to help you with this part of the setup. We think there is a better way, so that is why we are building an accessible interface that will be easier for everyone to use, whether they can see the computer screen or not.
The second screenshot shows the new proof of concept enter logon information screen with clearly defined fields for Station Label, Station Callsign, Station Audio, IP Address, User Name, and Password, as well as a station list to show the stations already entered. We are paying special attention to the tab order of the fields, making them logical and easy to access whether you use a screenreader or not.
